Academic support

The Graduate School of Humanities provides a full support system so that students can devote themselves to their research activities. Our small-group education program, centered on lectures and seminar classes by academic supervisors, is designed to provide students with detailed guidance on their own research themes. In addition to providing an environment in which students can easily consult with their advisors through office hours and a multiple advisor system, guidance and interim thesis presentations are held. Through these efforts, the entire graduate program and courses provide support so that students can engage in productive research activities toward the preparation of their theses.

To support research activities, students may publish their research results in " LANGUAGE AND CULTURE BULLETIN," which is published annually by this School. Students also have opportunities to participate in and present their research papers at academic conferences both in Japan and abroad.

For those who wish to engage in education, this School actively makes use of the Teaching Assistant (TA) system, which provides training in teaching methods by giving them the opportunity to assist in actual classes.

Early Completion Program and Long-term Study Program

Early Completion Program and Long-term Study Program were introduced in order to provide students with a variety of course options according to their abilities and goals. In the master's program, Early Completion Program is available and students who have made particularly outstanding research achievements can complete the program within one year of their enrollment upon request and receive a Master’s degree. On the other hand, Long-term Study Program is also available in the master's program. Students may, upon request, take courses that normally take two years to complete in three or four years, with the aim of providing a variety of enrollment options.

Daytime and Evening Class System

In order to promote the enrollment of working adults and to enhance graduate school education, this School have implemented a Daytime and Evening Class System in the master's program. Working adults who wish to study while working and those who are unable to take daytime classes due to family or work commitments can choose to take evening classes to complete their courses. The program ensures convenience to create flexible enrollment in accordance with students’ objectives.

Scholarships

Kanagawa University offers a wide variety of scholarships, including non-repayable grant-type scholarships to support studies at the Graduate School.

Educational Research Objectives, Educational Goals and Three Policies

The Graduate School of Humanities has three policies for admission, organization and implementation of curricula, and diploma conferral.
